Strange Case of the Word God and the Number 4
The 4th, 444th, and 4,444th words of the KJB are all "God." The word appears exactly 4,444 times. The first and last verses both have 44 letters. Coincidence?
There is a peculiar cluster of patterns surrounding the word "God" and the number 4 in the King James Bible. Each one on its own might be dismissed as coincidence. Taken together, they are at least worth noting.
44 Letters — First and Last
The very first verse of the KJB — Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" — contains precisely 44 letters. The very last verse of the KJB — Revelation 22:21, "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen" — also contains precisely 44 letters. The Bible opens and closes with verses of identical letter length, and that length is 44.
The 4th Word
Open to Genesis 1:1 and count the words: "In" (1), "the" (2), "beginning" (3), "God" (4). The 4th word of the entire King James Bible is "God." Also note that oddly, both the first and last verses of the King James Bible contain 44 letters.
The 444th Word

"God" Appears 4,444 Times — and "Jehovah" Appears 4 Times
Search the entire KJB for the word god (case-insensitive, whole word) and Pure Bible Search returns 4,444 occurrences. The same search for Jehovah — the personal name of God rendered in small capitals as LORD throughout most of the KJB but spelled out as "Jehovah" in a handful of verses — returns exactly 4 occurrences, in Exodus 6:3, Psalms 83:18, Isaiah 12:2, and Isaiah 26:4.
"Lord God" and the Fine-Structure Constant
The phrase "Lord God" appears 548 times in the King James Bible. That number is 137 × 4. The number 137 is the approximate inverse of the fine-structure constant (α ≈ 1/137), one of the most mysterious numbers in all of physics. Without this dimensionless constant holding its precise value, atoms could not form, chemistry would be impossible, and the universe as we know it could not exist. Physicists from Richard Feynman to Wolfgang Pauli have called it one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in science — a number that appears to be exact and fundamental, yet no one knows why it has the value it does.
That the phrase "Lord God" appears in the King James Bible exactly 137 × 4 times is, at minimum, a remarkable coincidence worth noting alongside the other patterns above.
